STORY + PHOTO GALLERY: Christie's Announces The Top Lots At The Patek Philippe 175th Anniversary Sale

This year, Patek Philippe celebrates their 175th anniversary. In honor of this occasion, Christie's will be hosting the "Patek Philippe 175" sale at the historic Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues in Geneva. One hundred of arguably the world's preeminent timepieces, all displaying Patek Philippe's triumphs and rich heritage, will be auctioned off at the sale that evening. As we near the date, I will certainly provide in-depth reports. Until then, I will discuss my two favorite watches offered at this auction--interestingly enough, both have remained in private hands until now.

On The Auction Block: Appreciation of Complications

About fourteen years ago, nearly a month shy of the 21stCentury, Sotheby’s held a historic sale highlighting the Graves Supercomplication pocket watch. Following a fervent bidding war by two anonymous bidders, the timepiece sold for a record-breaking $11,002,500. Come this November, the Graves Supercomplication is to be auctioned off at Sotheby’s for the second time.

Today, I spent some time looking back at some of my favorite watches from this year’s shows. As I was sorting through my millions of wristies (no not selfies, wristies), I found a few awesome pictures of an also awesome Reverso. But this was not just any Reverso: this was the Ultra Thin 1931 Chocolate Reverso, the watch that was under the spotlight at 2014’s SIHH. This irrefutably stunning wristwatch combines JLC’s technical sophistication as well as the brand’s appreciation of the icon’s (still referring to the watch) heritage.
