What a classic! The "Ovettone", or  "Big egg" in Italian, is one of the earliest collectible Rolexes. It's not a 1940's Bubbleback, yet it's not a 1950's Datejust. This watch is something in the middle--almost a transitional model, if you will. This fine example features a beautifully-patina'd dial with "Datejust" printed in red font (an uncommon and desirable detail).
