Sporting an Audemars Piguet, Wawrinka Claims His First French Open Title
Juan Martin Del Potro and Richard Gasquet have always been my favorite pro tennis players; however, I was awed by this week's French Open final between former-AP-sponsor Novak Djokovic and current-AP-sponsor Stanislas Wawrinka. The level of tennis and talent exhibited in this match was somewhat unanticipated, from my vantage point. Sure, Djokovic has won 8 grand slams, but I never have quite enjoyed observing his style of tennis, whereas watching Federer's impeccable strokes is mesmerizing. As per Wawrinka, there's no doubt he is gifted with a brilliant one-handed backhand; then again, I did not envision that he could beat Djokovic in a grand slam final (despite Wawrinka's victory over Nadal back in 2014). I was wrong. Wawrinka did, in fact, dominate the match, thereby beating Djokovic. Furthermore, I can honestly say that I haven't witnessed a better match this season. It was amazing! And what was on the wrist of Wawrinka from start to finish? An Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore, of course!
Maybe it wasn't such a wise move on Djokovic's part to switch over to Seiko....
