News Flash: A Treasure Rediscovered
An 1887 Easter gift from Czar Alexander III of Russia to his Empress, Maria Feodorovna, was bought by a scrap metal dealer in the Midwest close to a decade ago. At the time of purchase, the buyer had no idea of this piece’s true value. The now former owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, sold this piece for an estimated $33 million dollars. What is this treasure? Well, it’s a very special egg. Besides being a rare Faberge egg (on it’s own), when you open it up you’ll find a very nice V and C clock/watch. As a result of the built-in Vacheron, this watch can now be deemed the most expensive timepiece ever sold.
