The Watch Adviser: A Classic GMT

Yesterday, I was lucky enough to come face to face (dial) with a 58' Rolex 6542 GMT Master. The GMT has been my all-time favorite watch ever since I bought, and sold, a 1966 1675 about two years ago. When I first came into contact with the watch, I picked it up and felt the weight. Then, for about five minutes, I just stared at the delicate, completely original bakelite bezel. It's so beautiful, yet it's undervalued by collectors--at least that's what I think. Surprisingly,  vintage GMT Masters are extremely rare in comparison with vintage Submariners and Daytonas. I suspect that in the next few years, the demand for vintage GMT's will rise, bringing prices for this watch to record heights. If you are looking to spend anywhere from $5,000-$15,000 on a vintage Rolex, the GMT is your best bet.
